So...last night I worked till 9:30. When I came back, we had a couple guys over. They played Mario Party and I just sorta hung out and then went to bed around 3:45. I got up at 8:45, showered, got dressed, and went to start my shift at work at 10. I stayed till 4 and we were so busy, it was a constant steady flow of customers. I kept having to make change with the registers and grab stuff out of the fitting rooms, throw it on the back counter, and work on putting the stuff away when I had a spare second. Even in the sneakers (we were allowed to dress casual today because it is a football day) my feet were killing me!

After that I had to run back to Lion's Gate so Matt could get behind the wheel and drop me off here at Jenn's house. I have been babysitting since 4:30. The kids, 3 1/2 and 1, went to the park in a stroller with me and I pushed them in the bucket swings. It was so cute. We had dinner and I read them books, helped them brush their teeth, and got them in their bed / crib. That was by about 8:45, and ever since then I've just been hanging out. I wanted to snooze on the couch but for some reason, even though I'm exhausted, I can't fall asleep. According to a text from Matt, there are 8 people back at the apartment, aka a party. I'm not going to get much sleep tonight either, but at least I can sleep in because I don't have to be at work until 2:30 tomorrow. =)

Vicky, Mike, and Mr. Myic are coming up to Penn State for the weekend because Vicky is going to be touring the campus as a prospective scholarship student. They should be in town within the hour and they're going to call me when they get here. I'm really excited - I haven't seen them in over a month!

Mr. Myic and Vicky are going to a meeting and to lunch, but Mike's not allowed to go so I think Matt and I will treat him to lunch and show him around downtown. It's a great place to be. =)

I have a busy weekend, meaning not a lot of free time. Today I work 3:30 to 9, tomorrow I work 10 to 4 and then I babysit from 4:30 until 1 AM. The parents are going to the football game and they want to tailgate so I'm getting there as early as I can. I met the kids yesterday evening and they seem like really nice kids! I'm excited! =)

On Sunday I work too, from 2:30 to 6:30, so I basically will be working all weekend with no break. The good news is that I will get lots of money. =) The bad news is that I will be exhausted. =(

I've just had to listen to an interview between Katie Couric and Sarah Palin. It's a wonder my ears aren't bleeding.

Today was a relatively easy class day. I went to SPLED and ASTRO lectures, came home, napped, and went to my astro lab. We went on the roof of Davey Lab and used the binoculars to look at stuff that was really hard to see. The lab told us to look at things like nebulae and distant galaxies, but there was so much light pollution, so Megan, the TA, just told us to look at whatever we could find. Hence, my group members and I found Jupiter, Arcturus, the double-star in the Little Dipper, and a star in Cassiopeia. My eyes were killing me by the time it we could leave at 9:15.

The awesome part was that I saw one of my high school buddies there on the roof top. He was working as a TA with another class and when he saw me he came over and gave me a hug. It was so cool seeing such an old friend again! I just sent him an e-mail asking if he wanted to have lunch and catch up sometime. I miss high school!!!!

I quit Facebook today by deactivating my account. To me, the new layout = crap and FB mods aren't listening to the users anymore, so why bother being part of it?

This week is kind of good and kind of not so good because I don't work again until Friday. But after that I am working lots of hours!Today I have a class at 12:20 and 2:30 and then I'm going to come back to the apartment, relax, and get caught up on some reading. It is hard to stay on top of it when there is so much assigned reading and I'm a slow reader to begin with!Upcoming plans (outside of classes):
Friday
Kindercare, 10 AM - 11 AM
work 3:30 - 9:30

Saturday
work 10 - 4

Sunday
work 2:30 - 6:30

Monday
Kindercare 10 AM - 11 AM
work 5:15 - 9:30

I'm going to Kindercare to do my observations for E C E 451 and 452. I need ten hours by the end of the semester, which is why I'm not doing too much right away. I'm just doing it when I have time.Nap time!

Today was a very busy day. I got three hours of sleep last night but I had so much energy in the morning, I went for a walk. From 8:30 to 9:45 I visited with Scott, Amelia and Lottie. I gave them their presents; a touch and feel book for Lottie, who just turned 1, and the book Stelleluna for Amelia. Thankfully Scott said he was pretty sure they didn't already have that one. =)

After seeing them again (and it was wonderful!), I went to babysit for Lauren from 10 to 1. Owen always acts so shy at first but as soon as his mom leaves he is a whirlwind, going from one toy to the next. He liked to take these little toy people and make them slide down my arm. He also thought it was funny when I balanced them on my head. He is such a cute little thing.

After that I got a break and then went to Ethan's first birthday party (he and Lottie were actually both born on September 12th!) It was so fun holding him and Kaitlyn and seeing everyone, like Tyler and Angelo. They are so funny! Ethan looked adorable in his traditional Korean outfit. Since Aunt Michelle is Korean, they do that tradition for all the birthdays and it was great! The food was good and they had a pinata and a clown came just as I was leaving. It was hilarious watching Angelo tackle that Cookie Monster pinata. XD

I had to leave before the cake, and came home to get my stuff. Then I immediately came over to Heather's house. I was thrilled to see the kids again! They look pretty much the same as last month, only Mara's hair is a bit longer. It used to be real short, but not anymore. They had spaghetti and milk for dinner, watched some TV, and I gave them baths and put them to bed. I missed them so much!

I missed them all so much! Pictures to follow on Myspace and Facebook!

Posted by Katie @ 10:50 PM EST [Link]

So I am home!!!!!! I got to see the kittens, Naomi, Noah, and Rockee Dexter, play for a while and they were so funny. Then I wrapped the presents I had gotten for Amelia and Lottie. Everyone went to bed right after that, but Matt and I are still up. He's playing Full Tilt Poker and we're watching Fox Reality TV. Normally I don't watch reality shows, but I'm hooked. First was Celebrity Mole, which I didn't get at first but after I while I couldn't stop watching. Now it's The Littlest Groom. I'm not going to waste time talking about it, but at least it's fun to watch.

I have to get up at 8 to be at Anne's house at 8:30. I can't wait to see little Amelia and Lottie again! Lottie is a year old now. She is almost as old as Amelia was when I first started babysitting her (at 14 months). Also, I am going to see Owen from 10 to 1. He is going to be an even bigger boy now than he was last month. He is also the cutest, most handsome two-year old!

Tomorrow night I am going to see Brendan and Mara at Heather's house. I'm excited to see them, to see if they missed me, how much Mara has grown, and how kindergarten is going for Brendan. I feel like so much is passing me by and I've missed EVERYTHING! I'm really glad to be home. =)

Today I decided I had a lot of energy, so I ran errands in the morning. Took back the Blockbuster movie, went to the bank to get a roll of quarters, loaded up the dishwasher, and went to campus early to have lunch with Matt at the Subway on College Avenue. Then I went to take my soc exam and came back here where I put the dishes away and started doing laundry. I am doing both mine and Matt's to save time because when he gets back from classes at 4:30 we are going home! Yay! I am so excited. (=

On Saturday morning I'm going to visit Amelia from 8:30 to 10 and then babysitting Owen from 10 to 1 or so. I still haven't heard back from Heather, so I don't know what's going on Saturday night but I'll have to find out. I also hope to see some of my buddies. Call me when you get a chance Chan / Twin / Cuz / anyone else!!!!!!!! Can't wait!

Here's my schedule for the day (I don't have any classes scheduled, so it's a study day for me):

10:15: 11:00 ~ walk
12:00 - 2:00 ~ study for astro
3:00 - 4:00 ~ study for soc

It's pretty tentative, since I might alter the times I bit, but the lengths will remain the same.

I had a three hour class this morning, which is always annoying regardless of how good the instructor is (and she's pretty good). Then I had to walk over to Waring Commons for soc, in which I have an exam on Friday that I feel a bit unprepared for, but that's the way it always is.

I almost missed the bus to get to the Nittany Mall but I did get there okay and worked my evening shift. It wasn't so bad. I learned how to measure a guy for a suit and more about the men's department. I still wish I could work in junior's because the clothing is so much more interesting, but I'm getting used to the department I've been assigned to. =)

No classes tomorrow, just studying like crazy for the astronomy exam that's tomorrow night from 8:15 to about 9:15 or so. And of course, the soc exam is Friday right after lunch. Busy busy!

If you're on Facebook...check out this group I joined regarding Sarah Palin...(you might have to log in to view it).

I am definitely voting this year to keep that bitch out of office! I've never felt so strongly about something political in my entire life!!!!!

I wish there was something more I could do besides vote...because we all know that's not always fair...*cough Bush cough*

Off to class.

Last night I applied for a job on the Goddard website. Kimmi sent me a link to the State College site so I was finally able to apply. As it turns out, the place is on Westerly Parkway, which is literally a 15 minute walk from my apartment. Bad news is, in the winter, I won't be able to walk for 15 minutes. Matt said maybe I could borrow Doug's car, a Toyota Highlander, but I shouldn't expect him to agree to that, and it's totally fine if he doesn't. I just really hope I get this job, regardless of transportation issues.

Three classes today: SPLED, Astro 001, and Astro 011 (lab). Other than that...nothing. I don't have to work, so yay!!! But then tomorrow I have two classes followed by work. Like I said before, I hope I get this new job so I can stop being miserable at JCP!

I am really lonely. Matt went for homework help somewhere on campus, so now I am by myself. I should probably be reading for E C E 452, but I can't seem to focus.

There's a lot on my mind. My mom sent me photos from Lottie's first birthday party and I cannot get over how adorable she and Amelia look! Plus a huge chocolate cake that apparently Anne baked by herself! I better hurry up and find a babysitting gig here at State College before I drive myself mad.

Speaking of which, I have come to a decision that may involve needing some advice from others. It seems to me that I'm not getting enough hours at JCP, not to mention that I can't stand it there and I don't think that's about to change. I never really liked working in huge department stores, but I needed a job so bad, I took what I could get. Now I am beginning to see other job opportunities around me. Since I need to do observations for my two E C E classes, I figure, why not work in a daycare or child care facility?

Matt corned me about that, criticizing me by saying, "I thought that you hated daycares!" Eve though I strongly oppose sticking kids in daycares by parents who just "don't have time" to take care of them...First of all, I need a job, second, I love children, and third, I feel I could really give a lot to them, maybe some things their own parents cannot, or will not give them. So yeah, it seems strange that I would work at a daycare since I clearly don't think they should exist, but I feel I have something to contribute to those kids' lives. So that is my reasoning.

Anyway, I searched around on Google and found several places. I had already thought to do my observations at Kindercare, so I'm not sure if I could work there too. It wouldn't make sense to do that. Then I found the ABC Children's Center. They're only about a half mile away from my apartment, down on University Drive, so I would just have to walk by cutting through some roads. I sent them an e-mail but I obviously won't get a response because it's not normal business hours on a Sunday.

Other than that...the Goddard website doesn't seem to be functioning properly and that is driving me crazy! Well the center locater isn't working. The page won't load and I hate when that happens! Now I have no way of contacting them. I'm just going to have to wait until they fix it, or move on.

Yes, I have thought this out. I used iCal on my laptop to figure out exactly what hours I would be able to work on which days. I don't know if they're going to cooperate or even be able to cooperate. I guess we'll find out.

My mom sent me pictures from Lottie's first birthday party. I saw Amelia in a few of them. I miss them so much! As I've said a million times before, babysitting is what I miss most about home.

I want to take a weekend off from work to come home, but I'm already scheduled for Sunday the 21st and that was the weekend I wanted to come home. So now I get to deal with that! Oh great! I'm going to have to find out if anyone would want to switch with me for the 22nd, Monday. =(

Heather, does the weekend of the 20th and 21st work for you??? I need to know so I can put in that request and make plans with Lauren and my family. Lauren said she would need me on one of the days from 10 to 1, so you and Steve can probably go out on Saturday night or something if you want.

I'm going to bed to ward off this homesickness.....

Today:

- study for soc and astro (exams next week)
- go to the Nittany Mall for new clothes
- whatever Matt wants to do

Yeah, so it's looking like a pretty exciting weekend. Blah.

So...I have made a decision. I miss babysitting very much, too much. So I talked to Matt and he told me it is okay to pick a weekend, sometime in the next month or so, that I would like to come home for a visit. I was excited that he agreed to this because he can be a bit on the stubborn side when it comes to getting him to drive long distances.

ANYWAY...so I e-mailed Lauren, Owen's mom, asking her to pick a weekend in the next month that she may want or need me. Whichever weekend she picks, I will make sure to have off from work (because let's face it, JCPenney sucks so far and I would much rather babysit anyway). She pays good money and besides, Owen is wonderful! I miss him and the other kids terribly. Just earlier today I was looking through Heather's Myspace photos and saw a bunch of pictures, some of her son going off to kindergarten!!! I can't even believe it. I miss all those kids very terribly. I think babysitting is truly what I miss most from home.

Anyway, I will be sure to let people know which weekend I wind up visiting as soon as I hear from Lauren. I may also want to talk to Heather and see if she would need or want me for the same weekend. Why not give them both a chance to take a break?

I miss you Amelia, Lottie, Brendan, Mara, and Owen!!!!! I'm going to take sooo many pictures if this works out.

I was browsing the iTunes music library, just like I always do, and came across some Music Together songs. That got me thinking about the old times with little Amelia, who's not really so little anymore (she turned 3 in June). I remember listening to those Music Together songs with her and dancing to songs like Old Brass Wagon and doing the hand motions to Shoo Fly. I remember a lot of things. A lot. I'm not sad that she's growing up, I'm just sad that I don't get to see it at all! I went over to her house and went out to lunch with Anne, Lotte, Amelia, and my mom. When I walked in through the door and saw Amelia, I almost burst into tears. I missed her so much, but I didn't want to cry in front of Anne and make anyone feel awkward.

My greatest joy of being at home was the babysitting, not just for Anne, but for Heather and Lauren too. I won't get to do much of that here in State College, because 1) I don't have much free time and 2) I can't seem to find any families, even though I am on four different babysitting websites. Instead, I get to work at JCPenney...yaaaay...:'(

I don't even have that many hours yet, though I'm hoping that will change. I'm working tonight, Monday, and Wednesday from 5 to 9 each time. I'm hoping to know everything I need to know by Black Friday, but who knows. I hate being new. I always have, I always will.

I need to get ready to go to class soon. I have SOC at 12:20 and then work at 5. Thankfully tomorrow is Saturday. Thankfully.

Each student in ECE 451 will sign up for a workshop category. Those categories are listed below:

➢ Discovery/Science
➢ Cooking
➢ Creative arts
➢ Music/Movement
➢ Blocks/Construction
➢ Sand/Water

There will be groups of three or four presenters. As a group, you will be arranging our environment in a workshop format related to your area. Each student is responsible for planning, developing, and presenting one activity for young children in the area of your workshop. This activity must be interactive for the participants and must incorporate language and literacy components. Each presenter is also responsible for creating a handout about your activity. Include materials, procedures, developmental areas, and any other important information. Your handout should also include a bibliography of resources.

--------------------

So that is my task. At this point I have been through so many ideas that I can't seem to complete. My first idea was to do a letter / reading activity based off of one of my favorite children's books, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Then I was going to do a lesson in music and movement with Eric Carle's book Today is Monday (love that one too). Then I went to iTunes and found some music from Music Together, a children's music company that made CDs that Amelia and I used to dance to. I found one about the beach so I thought I'd do something with that and play the music. Then I thought, maybe since we're doing the workshops closer toward the end of the semester, I should do a winter-themed lesson.

So you see, I really have no idea.

I have been extremely busy lately. Last night I was up until 1:30 in the morning studying. Matt played Spore because he discovered his homework wasn't due until Friday. I think he deserves a break.

This morning has been a lot of running around. I had to run some errands: take a game back to Blockbuster, get gas, get quarters from the bank to do laundry, and pick Matt up from his class. Then we came home and took out the trash and recyclables together because there was so much. We brought over our laundry and threw that in the washers, then I did the dishes and cleaned like crazy so now our apartment is a whole lot cleaner.

Right now we are waiting for our clothing to finish up in the dryers. I'm going to take a shower and then I have to take an online exam for SPLED at 1. After that I have to go to an actual class at 2:30. Tonight I was planning on finishing up my astronomy lab and doing my second lunar observation. We'll see how clear the sky is.

Today was a looong day. I had my E C E 451 class from about 9 to 12 this morning, then a soc class for an hour. I met Matt for lunch at The Diner and then caught the bus to work.

I spent my evening, from 3:30 until 9, working in the junior department with Britney, who, let's face it, is a lot like Lauren from Hallmark only not a manager. In other words, there is NOTHING this girl does not know. I know someday I'll get to that point, but I hate, and I mean, HATE, being new. >.< It sucks big time. I work Friday, Monday, and Wednesday, from 5 to 9 each day. I'm going to try to pick up some more hours along the way because at this rate I WON'T be able to pay my rent. :( I am getting some money from my parents for text books (and a care package soon, yay!) so that ight help a bit, but so far it's the 10th of September, and rent is due October 1st. And...I don't even have $100. We're going to have to do something about that.

I've decided to push for 15 hours a week at JCPenney and to make only minimum payments on my credit card ($20 a month). At that rate, I should have around $400 a month, which is enough to cover the $360 or so that I owe for rent / electric / phone. Actually I probably owe a bit more. So at 15 hours a week, I should barely scrape by.

Oh...the joys of college. :/

Tuesday, September 9, 2008

Throughout the past few weeks, I've had so many different emotions. I've felt everything from anxiety to anger to ecstasy to boredom to sadness. Right now I'm a mix. I'm bored, for one thing, but I'm also extremely, extremely sad. Not only because of the fact that I'm homesick, but because of the fact that I'm SICK.

Ah yes, that wonderful word again: Bipolar. I hear people make fun of it from time to time, like they say, "I think so-and-so is bipolar because of the way she's acting." And I condone it because I know they're ignorant. And we all know that ignorance is bliss.

I hate knowing that I cannot ever be happy, truly happy, without the aid of pills and doctors. And before you say that I feel this way because I haven't been taking my medicine...that's not true. I was just in the kitchen taking my medicine, and I have been, almost religiously, for the past few weeks, since I got here. I know there will be people who don't believe me, and those people are wrong.

The funny thing about BD is that you can never grow accustomed to it, and you can never control it. So it's not like you can say, "Oh, now I feel sad. I guess I'll just have to change what I'm doing so I won't feel sad anymore." No. Once you're down, you're down. And the pain, oh, it's unbearable. I can't even enjoy feeling "happy" anymore, because I know that the reason I'm feeling "happy" is because I'm really manic, and that later I'm just going to crash and feel all depressed and horrible again. And when I'm depressed, I can't ever look forward to being happy, or manic, because I know that I'll just plummet back into depression afterwards. It's a vicious cycle. A very vicious cycle.

It must be nice to feel "normal," to not rely on pills or worry about whether or not you're going to make it through the week because you might kill yourself first.

My feelings are strange. I can't get homework done, I walk around campus with my iPod on, I dread going to sleep because I just have to get up in the morning and face the day, I eat and eat and I can't stop so I feel terrible about that, the apartment is a mess, I leave my clothes on the floor and my books and folders all over the futon, etc. You get the idea. Some nights I don't brush my teeth, shower, or put PJs on. Tonight I at least put PJ bottoms on but I'm debating whether or not I feel like getting off the bed again to brush my teeth.

So there you go. My teeth will rot, I will get fat, I will fail out of school (or drop out first and save myself the trouble), and that is my life. There is not much more to it than that. I can't get anything done and that is the way it is.

Today was my first day of training at JCPenney. It consisted of filling out forms through the computer, watching videos, finding our lockers, and a tour of the offices. All of this took almost five hours. I am going back tomorrow and Wednesday evenings for more training. I really want to just get to work instead of all of this silly training business, but I don't have a choice too.

School tomorrow too. :/

Today I got up at 10:30. I wanted to get a bowl of cereal but Matt had used up the last of the milk for his cereal, so I just didn't eat any breakfast. I can't believe it's noon already. I haven't done much. I've just been writing a lot lately. Last night I worked on my cross stitch. Today I'd like to study and maybe work on my website. I'm putting together a site on squidoo.com. Hopefully I'll actually be able to finish it.

I have been chatting with Rachel and Andrew through AIM. I've been feeling the pangs of homesickness a lot these past few days, but maybe it'll go away. It has to. =(

Chan, I know you moved into your house yesterday. How did that go? I hope you took lots and lots of pics. I want to see what it looks like and maybe visit sometime! I will also have to write you a letter. :D

Okay, so I'm going to go find something to do. Later!

So many of you might know that I wrote a short story and I want to make a video to go with it. But in order to do that, I need volunteers. I need MALE volunteers.

If you think you're interested or you know someone who might be, please contact me and I can send you an attached copy of my story titled "By Reason of Insanity." Of course I am at State College and probably won't be back until Thanksgiving, so you might have to come out here. But I was hoping on planning to get some people out here some weekend soon anyway. If you need a little gas money, I can give you some. It would be nice to have people over to see my place, visit downtown, etc., PLUS get work done on the video.

For those who are curious and interested...I have a character list and who's playing who. I can add to the second list as we go. And for those who are concerned, you don't have to do any physical acting. It's all vocal as of now.

*LIST*

- Lucy Planchek - Me
- Chester Bentley (year I kinda stole his name partially from the guy from Linkin Park) - Matt
- Roberts (Chester's friend, minor part)
- Brian Johnson (another STOLEN name from The Breakfast Club ha ha)
- Mitchell (Brian's friend, minor part)
- Officer Owen Dawson
- Detective Cash
- Narrator (preferably a female, though I might do away with this at some point)

I think that's everything, although knowing me, I probably missed something somewhere. So yeah...Matt and I are the only two so far. And we already started working on it, so don't let me down! I really wanna do this! Okay, that's it.

I just got back from dropping Matt off at school. Traffic wasn't as bad as yesterday because they keep doing construction on Beaver Avenue and it's getting really annoying. Two lane one-way city streets are NOT meant for construction!!!

My one and only class is at 12:20 today. I will probably leave at 11. I'd like to get breakfast and some reading done till then. I doubt I will get much done though. I jut have no energy these days...

On the bright side, I did a little cross stitch last night while Matt was out playing poker. It was a lot of fun, even though I didn't get too much done. I still enjoyed it!

It's getting pretty boring up here at State College. I spend a lot of my time either with Matt (who I love, but let's be honest here, he can drive me nuts) or by myself. I saw Kelly a couple of days ago, and Janine at the education orientation meeting, but other than that, I've mostly been alone.

My parents keep sending me photos of the kittens. They are really adorable. They also have beautiful blue eyes and shiny black fur. I miss them so much!!!

At least it won't be too empty a weekend. Well, Saturday probably will be. On Sunday I have job training from 1 to 5. It's about time. I'm really starting to run out of money. =( I wonder if I will be able to afford my rent on time this month (October 1st is the next time I'll have to pay).

Matt is going to play poker with his buddies tonight. I'm probably going to try to get caught up on some reading. We'll see how that goes. =(

This past weekend was the trip to Knoebels that Kimmi has been planning forever, and that I've been looking forward to forever! It was, of course, totally awesome and amazing. Some stuff I did...

1) Helped to set up a tent (or rather, to take down the tent. I just kinda watched everyone else set it up :P)

2) Roasted marshmallows

3) Got drunk

4) Watched everyone suck at starting fires

5) Played King's Cup / Waterfall / whatever other names it has

6) Slept in a tent...Katie doesn't sleep in tents but she did this weekend!!! :D

7) Got motion sickness for one of the first times in my life

8) Screamed so loud on the roller coasters, I literally lost my voice

9) Had a really gross slushie

10) Had really yummy popcorn

11) Rode with Matt on the antique cars...he's crazy even in a 100-year old styled go-kart!

12) Went on the log flume

13) Watched Alex and Matt on Fandango and felt sick just watching

14) Rocked the Flying Sails :P

15) Wished that Flying Turns could be open

16) Also wished we hadn't forgotten the Cosmotron and that we could have gone on the tea cups...you guys are no fun!!! :P

17) Didn't want to ever leave...

Let's not forget the funniest roller coaster photo ever taken...go to Kimmi's Knoebels photo gallery to see it. It's the second one later on...the first photo is from last year.

Gotta love Knoebels!
