My Archives: August 2008

I went to class today, in the gross, dreary weather. I met up with Matt for lunch and then he waited for me during my class. Then he walked me to the bus stop and I came back here. There's not much more to my school day than that.

I swung by the car wash and got some quarters from the change machine. Then I came back and got the mail - my pay check from CD came ($200!!!!) I threw my laundry in using some of the quarters from the car wash and I'm currently online hanging out. I found someone who posted a job position for babysitting tonight into tomorrow morning, early. So I applied, hoping that maybe I would hear from them soon enough. We'll see...

I'm sick. I could barely take notes in my astronomy clas this afternoon. I have a headache and stuffy / runny nose, so I have trouble breathing sometimes, except for when I blow my nose, which feels really good before I get stuffed up again after, like, a minute.

I am better than I was yesterday though. I just feel weak, but my headache and sore throat are pretty much gone. I'm hoping to be completely better by Saturday morning for the camping trip. Not that I wouldn't go even if I was still sick. I'd just rather not be!

The good news is that my dad took Button Cup into the shop a few days ago and they diagnosed the problem. Turns out it wasn't the spark plugs, but the spark plug WIRES. So Button Cup should be back to normal soon enough. I can't wait to drive it again. =)

Matt and I are back at the apartment again, and he is playing his Mario Kart Wii game. AGAIN. I think he is determined to beat all the cups on every cc, including Mirror Mode. I also think he's crazy. This morning I played SMW again. I went through Star World and took the short cut to Bowser's Castle. I am such a cheater! :P But I died on the roof fighting Bowser when I ran into one of those STUPID wind-up mini Bowsers. -.-;;

I think I am obsessed. And bored.

I hate myself.

95% of the time, I really, truly, and honestly, hate myself.

Read my latest Facebook note for more info. I'm not fucking reposting any of that shit.

Later.

This morning I dropped Matt off at the corner of Allen Street and College Avenue. I am back at the apartment catching up on some reading before I leave for my classes. And I get to drive his Mustang - aren't I lucky?

My one E C E textbook is so boring, at least so far. But I am getting through it okay. I just hope it doesn't keep up like this! I have read over thirty pages and taken notes. So you can bet I am taking a break now!

I'll probably have Ramen for lunch and then head out around 11. Maybe sooner. See ya.

I wanted to ask everyone a huge favor. I recently finished a short story that I am tentatively calling "By Reason of Insanity". I am hoping to make it into a movie but I need some help from people. The type of movie I want to do is something that I saw done on Youtube and I really liked it, so I wanted to try it out for myself. It would basically be just audio recordings of people speaking the parts, and black and white pictures to go with it.

Right now I have two female parts and five male parts. I am doing the female main character's voice already. I also have my cousin who MIGHT be doing the female narration. Matt is doing one of the two male main character's voice. That leaves us with four other male parts that I need! One of them is pretty minor, so if you don't feel like doing much, you can take that part.

Even if you just know a guy who might be up to the task, let me know! I think it would be awesomeif we could pull this off. If you want to read the story, it is 21 typed pages but it goes pretty fast once you get into it. Tell me and I can e-mail you an attached copy of the story. Thanks in advance!

I have two orientations to go to today. One is for education majors and it's mandatory, from 2 to 3. And there is one for all change-of-campus students from 3:30 to 4:30. That one is optional, but apparently there is free ice cream. And it's not like I have anything better to do, right?

More later.

It is going to be another boring day. Practically everyone at Penn State is moving in today, so traffic is going to be ridiculous. That's why I'm staying in at the apartment all day.

We might be having a few friends over tonight to hang out. Until then (and until we know for sure they're coming), I'm staying in my PJs. I'll shower later tonight. I'm much too lazy now!

I've been printing out a syllabus for each class and putting them into folders. Also I have some reading to do for next week, like for astronomy and a couple other education classes (I think maybe just one).

One week till Knoebels! Yayee! ^__^

Matt and I have been hanging out at the apartment all day. Doug has been gone since Tuesday or Wednesday and won't be back till tomorrow night, so we have the place to ourselves.

This morning I did my laundry. I spent three dollars in quarters to wash and dry my first week's worth of clothing, and now Matt doesn't have any quarters to do his laundry. I think he only has half a hamper, but still. Maybe he can go to the car wash and put money in the change machine or something. The laundry facility doesn't have a change machine, which makes sense because otherwise they would just accept dollar bills.

Right now I am making Ramen and he is playing Mario Kart on his Nintendo Wii. We rented it at Blockbuster two nights ago and he's been playing it pretty much nonstop in the evenings. He's quite good at it too, and it's so entertaining to watch him mess up. I love it.

Tomorrow is another nothing day. We're probably going to stay here, since it's move-in day for almost the entire rest of the Penn State population and traffic will be crazy. I'm trying to get Rachel and Katie Sr. to come up but they can't make it till Sunday and we have classes Monday so I'm doubtful they can stay the night, which would make coming up at all pointless. Oh well, we shall see.

I miss everyone!!!!!!!!

Tomorrow I'm going to go pick up my textbooks and I think Matt and I are going to head over to the Nittany Mall so I can spend my $45 (my Aero gift card and my Visa gift card). I'm probably going to spend the Visa gift card in Macy's because I can go to the sales rack. I need some work clothes so I think that's the best place to go. (=

I sent out letters today so if you were at my party look for yours in the mail!!!!

I am still totally psyched that I actually got a job so easily. I calculated everything and I think I'm going to be just fine. Here's what I came up with:

Diane had said that I would be working anywhere from 15 to 25 hours per week at $7.25 per hour. I used $6.50 to account for taxes. So:

$6.50 X 15 = $97.50 / week
$97.50 X 4 = $390 / month

OR...

$6.50 X 25 = $162.50 / week
$162.50 X 4 = $650 / month

These are the best and worst scenarios. I am very happy about this. I'm going to have a little extra money left over, or so it seems. (= Yay!

This morning I got up around 10 or so and got a bowl of cereal for breakfast. Then Matt and I decided to head over to campus to explore. We stopped by the bookstore but my books weren't ready yet (I had ordered them through the bookstore website), so we walked around campus. Matt said he knew where all of his classes were because they are all within three buildings, two of which are right next to each other, so we set about finding my classes. We went to Chambers, Sparks, and Osmond. I knew that finding Waring was going to be tricky, so I'll leave that for another time.

We went into each building and found the exact classrooms for my education and astro classes. It was a beautiful day to be walking around too. Not only was it sunny, but it was nice and cool. I guess I should enjoy it while it lasts.

Matt wanted to pick up his parking pass, so we did that and then headed back to the bookstore so I could buy some envelopes. Stamps won't do me any good if I can't mail the letter. :)

I'm not really sure what I'm going to be doing the rest of the day. I mailed all my letters already. I tried calling my mom so I could chat with her, but she wasn't answering so I figured she was busy. I guess I'm pretty bored right now. Kelly doesn't move in until Saturday, so I can't invite her over. I wish classes would start, or that I could get my textbooks and read through them...or something!!!

Matt and I had gone to Walmart around 11:30 tonight to pick up some school supplies. He was going to get some clothing too but decided to wait. I drove his car there and then again on the way back. We were driving down Atherton and were at the corner of Westerly Park, one block from our street, when I saw the blue and red lights. I was like, "WHAT DID I DO???" I wasn't speeding, nor had I run any red lights. The other thing I could think of was that I was drifting a little bit because I wasn't used to driving Matt's car, and I was still learning. His is bigger than mine so it's a little harder to manage. Maybe, I thought, the cop thinks I'm drunk?

So meanwhile I'm yelling at Matt, asking what I should do, like should I pull down a side neighbrohood street, because Atherton is a four-lane street that's not that busy, but there was traffic anyway. He just said to come to a stop and put my flashers on. We sat there waiting for a few moments and then the cop came over and asked for all my information. I gave him my license, which had expired on Monday. THANKFULLY I had gone online to order a camera card so I could go to the DLC and get another license, but I hadn't gotten the camera card yet so I had a temporary print-out paper that probably saved me from getting a ticket.

The cop was very nice. The reason he had pulled me over was because the Mustang's headlights weren't on. The fog lights and parking lights were, but not the headlights. Matt got out and looked at the lights with him, and we fiddled with it and finally got them to come on. The cop just told us to get them fixed as soon as we could and to drive safely. We're just going to have to be extra careful to always make sure they are on until we get to a shop or otherwise figure out what's wrong and how to fix it.

In other news, I had my job interview. It was at 7 and I was 15 minutes late because I got lost. I went the wrong way on College Avenue. Actually College Ave is a one-way street, so what happened was that I went south on 26 instead of north, which is one part of College Ave that's not one-way. At any rate, I made it to the JC Penney at the Nittany Mall by about 7:15 for my job interview. Diane greeted me and we went back and chatted. She is so sweet! I really liked her. And even better than that, she offered me a job position! She said it is anywhere from 15 to 20 hours per week, which will give me enough to pay my rent. Yay! This is what I was most concerned about, and now it's not a problem anymore. (=

Tomorrow I would like to go to campus and figure out where my classes are, and also to buy my textbooks. I also have to mail a few letters, but first...sleep!

Saturday was a long, busy day. We woke up at 7 and started getting things together at around 7:30. Doug was running a little late, so he didn't get there until a bit after ten. When he did, we loaded up all the stuff and headed out. We had some furniture, so it was a pretty tight squeeze. When the UHaul was full, we headed out. I had spoken to Joanne (Doug's mom) earlier that morning. She and Doug's younger sister were driving ahead of us, Doug was driving his Highlander by himself, Matt and I were in the Mustang with Dee, and my parents were driving up after us in the Toy.

The trip wasn't too bad, and we arrived a little bit after 1. Joanne had already paid and gotten the keys, so we got into our apartment at K-12 and started unpacking. I started putting my clothes away in the closet and Matt set up the computer while my parents, Dee, and I went to Walmart. We bought tons of stuff like toiletries, shower curtain, sheets, stuff for laundry, socks, etc. We also grabbed a bite to eat and headed back to the apartment.

By the time we had gotten back, Matt had set up the computer and TV. Doug had gotten his TV set up in the living room, we had the futon out and most of the food put away. I put away more clothes and organized my jewelry. By this point, it was getting to be six in the evening. Dee and my parents left and Joanne, Doug, and Laura went out to eat. I took a shower in my brand new bathroom (yay!) before heading out to the Olive Garden with Matt for a yummy meal. :)

But the best part of the night was exchanging anniversary presents. I gave Matt his gifts, wrapped up in two individual shirt boxes. They were two pillow cases that I had embroidered, a 'K' on one and an 'M' on the other. I will be sure to post pictures. He loved them. His eyes lit up like a Christmas tree when he picked them up and held them in his hands. I don't think he could believe I had made them, to be quite frank. ^__^

His anniversary gift to me was beautiful. First, he wrote me a poem called "Today". Matt is not very big on reading and writing, so the fact that he had written it at all was amazing. It was so sweet! Then he pulled out a little black box. On the inside was a small golden bracelet with a little band that had the words "Katie & Matt" engraved in calligraphy. It was such a beautiful bracelet. I hugged him and hugged him, wondering how much he had spent, and why he spoils me so much. I guess it's because he loves me. =D

I called my dad about half an hour ago to remind him about what was going on tomorrow morning. I asked how things were and he wasn't giving me a direct answer. Then he told me the little one didn't make it. It was all I could do to get off the phone before I lost it.

Dee heard me talking to him and came into the hallway and we cried and cried. I have never felt so sad and hopeless. I feel completely heart broken. My precious little Baby Cakes is gone. I feel like my whole world is crumbling.

He was so tiny and cute. He never even really had a chance to live. I don't know what we're going to do. How can I ever look into that box and see Annabelle and her babies again and not think about Baby and how he's missing, he's gone, and he's never coming back? I don't think I want to ever go anywhere near those other kittens again. I know it's wrong to blame them, and I should be grateful they made it and are well and thriving, but I don't care. They're the reason he didn't make it anyway. They drank too much milk and left none for him...

He was a week old...only a week old...

Today was my last work day at CD. I worked from 8:15 to 12:45, but since people only had two wash sessions, they were coming in more slowly, so we had gaps of five minutes or more when there were no panelists in the room. It was a nice slow-paced morning.

Matt picked me up and we went for lunch with Dee and then went home for a nap. He is at work now, and I'm trying to find things to do until tonight, when we are going to Applebee's with Diane.

Tomorrow is Move-In Day! Matt and I are getting up at 7 and starting to get things together before Doug arrives at 8. We definitely need to leave by nine though, so we can arrive and start unpacking by noon. It is going to be a long, long, busy day.

In the mean time, I've been job hunting through Google, but it's not being very fruitful. Once I get there, I'll probably drop by the Nittany Mall and go to all the stores. Not exactly something I'm really looking forward to, but then again I don't really have a choice.

I spent all morning packing. Most of the stuff is either trash or going to Purple Heart, which is good because that means I'm really getting rid of stuff. I have a few more trash bags of clothes and a small bag of electronic stuff. I think we're going to buy groceries and toiletries once we're up there. That'll mean less stuff for us to lug from home.

I have to get moving again. About three hours left before I have to go to work and won't have any time left. Also, I finished Matthew's anniversary present (at last) and I'm wrapping it up as a gift tonight!

I have two more trash bags of clothes (making that six bags total), one bag of shoes and accessories, a box of hangers, a bag of miscellaneous stuff, and a bag of electronic things (chargers, my iHome, etc.). All in all, I'm hoping it will fit in Matt's car and my parents' Toyota Matrix, since it kind of needs to. We'll see what happens. If I have to make another trip, then I will, but I'd rather not.

Later.

We might be losing a kitten. One of the little boys isn't doing so well. He's listless and isn't eating, and he's smaller than the other ones, even the girl. I sat up there while my dad tried one method after another for getting him to eat. He hardly did at all. My dad said he got the little boy to nurse for twenty minutes last night, but tonight there was no such luck.

I should have known that when Annabelle had babies, only bad would come of it. I don't know what I would do if I lost my little boy...my little baby.

I can't stop crying now...

Today I came in at about 8 and started washing arms at 8:30. We were doing it up until quarter to 4, and had a 45 minute break at 11:45. I had a turkey hoagie from Wawa and some pasta that one of the panalists had brought it (we all agreed it was very sweet of her!) Most of them are extremely nice. It's getting easier to get through it though, today because I am so used to the whole routine. Tomorrow I have off and I'll be packing all day until work at 6 (I have work tonight too). If anyone wants to help me pack and say goodbye and / or see the kittens, let me know through a text emssage or message on here!

Today was Day 1 at CD. I spent the entire day, from 8 to 4, applying soap to people's arms. I think I worked with over thirty different women. -.-;; It was a lot of work, exhausting, and boring, but at least I got to socialize with people. That's always a good thing.

Tomorrow I have to do it again and then work at Hallmark from 6 to 9. Ditto for Thursday, and on Friday I am just at CD for the last day. Normally I wouldn't do this, but I need the money, and it's just in time for Move-In Day, so I basically have no choice.

I need to call Monique from JC Penney about the job interview, and I need to return Joanne (Doug's mom)'s phone call. I left a message with someone at her house, but she must not have gotten it in time. Hopefully she'll call tomorrow and I'll be able to answer.

I am going to bed soon. I have another long day tomorrow. I'll post more at a later date, and also how the kitties are doing because I'll be home for a bit tomorrow afternoon to see them.

Working a 40-hour week between two jobs is really hard work. I'm on my lunch break, so I'll post more later about what I'm doing.

I spent the last hour and a half packing. I really got pretty far, but I'm exhausted and I still have to go to work! I only work from 6 to 9, which isn't too bad. I think I'm with Marilyn tonight, so that'll be fun. =)

More later.

I have so much to do and I am so tired! This morning I got up at 7:15 to take my friend to work, then went to the doctor at 9. I also have work at 6 tonight. I've been so tired lately. Why could that be?

I of course still need to finish Matt's present and pack more. I have my winter clothes packed up but that's just about it. I should get on that, huh?

My party is in one week!

Also, tomorrow starts my week at Matt's internship place. It is going to be a very, very long week. -.-;;

I sent people a Facebook message, but I'll say it here too, because some people aren't too active on Facebook. If you're planning on coming to my party (and I mostly know who is), send me a message, call me, or something, because I need to make a guest list. Also, if you're going to be drinking (legally that is), please send me the name of ONE drink that you would like. Be specific. I'm paying for everything, but I need to make a list of stuff to bring with me to the liquor store. I'm going to post a guest list on the bulletin board.

I have to leave soon to take my sister to the doctor, and then I have to go to work at 4. I actually prefer working later in the day. It's never as busy.

UPDATE! Annabelle went into labor at 6 AM today. I will get back to you with how many she has. Right now it's just 2, but we are expecting anywhere from 2 to 4 more kittens. ^__^ Yay!

In other news, Button Cup (my car) is having some problems. It's jerking around a lot, especially when I accelerate between 40 to 60 mph. I suspect it's the spark plugs, and that's what I've been hearing, but I asked Matt's friend, who is a mechanic, and he said he would have to take them out and look at them. Since I'm leaving in a week, it's not really too much of my own problem. Except for the fact that Kimmi and I are going to Troy this weekend. I hope Button Cup can make the nearly 200 mile trip (one way). I was thinking of asking my dad if I could borrow the Toy (Toyota Matrix) for the trip, but I'm not sure if that'll fly with him or not.

I'm so upset. I love that car, and I depend on it completely. I just want to assure Kimmi though, that we are still going to Troy, and we are still going to Knoebels. It's just a matter of figuring how if Button Cup will be okay and, if not, whether or not I can take the Toy. But I guess we shall see.

Okay, I have stuff to do. I am working on a new short story. It's been a while since I've done one. And I am still working on the second part of Matt's present. I will post pics. And yes, it is taking forever. I know, I'm so sick of working on it because it's pretty much all I've been doing for over a month!!!! Grrrrrr...

Today has been a good day. I went to Matt's internship place this morning and was trained on what to do for the study they are running next week. I'm being paid a lot so I have to do it because I need the money. But everyone there is so nice, I don't mind!!

After that, Matt and I hung out at my house. Then he dropped me off at work at 1. I was there from 1 to 5. Lauren was in the back office, so I had to manage helping the customers all by myself. It was exhausting, but by 3:30 it had pretty much died down. I spent the last two hours checking in a 3-box everyday shipment and putting the stuff out. That kept me busy. Then Matt came in at about 5 minutes to 5 to see me! That was exciting. We went next door to Nick's Pizza for dinner and then went to Blockbuster (where I found out Siliang works, so I chatted with him!) and we rented Cloverfield. I had seen it in the theater, but I liked it, and I was paying so we were getting it. :D

After we watched my sister play Splinter Cell, we watched the movie and Matt is now sleeping off a headache as I type (on my sister's desktop because my laptop is fried). I would like to go for a walk with him later, but I'm going to have to wait and see how he is feeling. =( Unfortunately, he gets these weird headaches from time to time. I hope it goes away soon.

I also got more of his present done. =) Sometimes I love doing it, other times I feel as if I am sick to death of it. I hope he likes it!!!

Posted by Katie @ 09:31 PM EST [Link]

I have a really good work schedule coming up. Next week is actually my last week here, and I am working on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6 to 9, all three days. I was happy about that. I didn't think I would even get that many hours!

I am going to Cyberderm where Matt has his internship tomorrow morning for training, and then we are both going home to my house. I have to go to work for this weird shift in the middle of the day, from 1 to 5. Whatever, fine by me. Wednesday shall be fun. I am babysitting for most of the day, starting at 8:30. I almost couldn't go but figured it out at the last minute. Lauren was so happy! She and Jay are so nice, and Owen is a little joy. I'm actually looking forward to it. =)

Annabelle should be having her babies any day now. I will post pics.

I also am mostly finished with Matt's anniversary present. I'm going to take pics and post them here on a preferred list only, and delete him from the list. If you find out you're not on the list because I somehow forgot, but want to be, please let me know!!!

Also, I need people-of-legal-drinking-age to message me either here or on Facebook with what they would like to have to drink at my birthday party. One thing. Be specific.

I guess that's all. See everyone soon hopefully.
